Vasiliki Giannaki
Licenced psychologist, Msc
Systemic, couple and family psychotherapist
Welcome to my website. At my private practice I offer individual, couple and family psychotherapy and i am working with a wide range of psychological and relationship difficulties in emotional, mental and physical health.
First steps
Therapy is a co-creative process. I provide a safe and confidential space to explore and talk openly without discrimination or judgement. Taking the first steps can be difficult, but an initial consultation can help you address any concerns you may have.
Academic & Professional Background
I hold a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Panteion University in Athens and a master’s degree in Applied Child Psychology from Nottingham Trent University in the UK. I trained at University Mental Health Research Institute (EPIPSI), Athens, one of the leading institutions for academic and clinical training in Systemic psychotherapy in Greece. This four year training included extensive supervised work with families at “Eginiteio Hospital Family Unit”.
My working experience as a psychologist is extensive, working at public schools, different mental health settings, International Organizations, Non-governmental organizations, acquiring valuable clinical practice by providing counselling and psychotherapy at students, adults and vulnerable populations. Furthermore, I am trained and experienced in administering psychometric tests (Wechsler Intelligence Scales: WPSSI-III, WISC-V, WAIS-IV).
My educational and professional path in different cities and countries, my collaboration with different interdisciplinary teams and my experience working with families of different origin and cultural background shaped the way I am working, adopting and incorporating in my clinical practice a human-right based approach.
My approach
Systemic psychotherapy is a way of thinking, a framework of clinical practice that focuses on how things work. It provides an opportunity for individuals, regardless of how they present in the therapy room (i.e as individuals, families or couples) to explore how they interact with others, process their feelings and speaking their minds in a safe, non-judgmental environment. Systemic thinking moves the focus from the individual, as it sees the individual as a member of different groups within the context in which they live (family, work, leisure, friends, community, life cycle etc.).
Through this approach the psychotherapist helps you to understand what may be causing you difficulties, problems and symptoms that may affect your everyday life. Furthermore, whether your problems are identifiable, or confusing, psychotherapy or counselling can help you deal with emotions that are difficult to understand, giving you fresh insight into your life and work in order to find the best way forward.
My approach to psychotherapy is inclusive, I acknowledge and accept diversity and multi-culturalism of the social context where we live and I am committed to provide a safe, confidential and non-discriminatory space, and to work in ways that promote understanding and respect.
The following short video helpfully explains what psychotherapy is and why you might seek help.
